REFUGEE FOOTBALL LEAGUE
Unity Through Sport, Strength Through Community
At Changing Lives Community Services, we believe that sport has the power to bring people together, break down barriers, and create a sense of belonging. Our Refugee Football League, based in Colchester and surrounding areas, is a private football league designed exclusively for refugees and asylum seekers.
This initiative provides access to sport and physical activity for individuals who may face barriers to participation, helping to improve wellbeing, build social connections, and create a supportive community. Through football, we offer more than just a game—we provide friendship, structure, and a chance to rebuild confidence in a new environment.
What We Offer
⚽ Access to Sport & Physical Activity
Football is a universal language, and our league provides a safe and welcoming space for refugees and asylum seekers to stay active, improve fitness, and enjoy the game they love. Regular matches and training sessions ensure that participants have consistent opportunities to play.
🤝 Reducing Social Isolation & Building Friendships
Arriving in a new country can be overwhelming and lonely. Our league fosters a sense of belonging and connection, allowing individuals to form new friendships, build support networks, and integrate into the community through the shared love of football.
🧠 Improving Mental Wellbeing
Physical activity is a powerful tool for reducing stress, anxiety, and depression, challenges that many refugees and asylum seekers face. Football provides an outlet for self-expression, a boost in confidence, and a sense of normality in their new surroundings.
🚀 Creating Opportunities & Positive Pathways
Our program connects participants with further sports opportunities, volunteering roles, and support services, ensuring that football becomes a stepping stone towards greater inclusion, personal growth, and future prospects
